(More customer reviews)I have had nothing but trouble with these skates. I got them as a Christmas present because I wanted to try out for the local roller derby league and thought I should get some practice under my belt before-hand since I haven't skated in 15 years.
The first time I wore the skates I barely made it around the rink once because some of the wheels weren't spinning and the trucks were so loose they were actually touching the base of the boot and wore a grove into the plastic! I had everything adjusted by someone who knows what they're doing and they noticed the bearings were smashed but thought they'd be OK for what I needed.
The skates still made me feel extra clumsy, like I was tipping over (by this time I had used the rentals enough to know I could get around OK).I tried to skate through it and only spent about an hour and a half on them altogether. When I got home, I realized that the whole skate was bent which was why I felt like I was leaning (I was!) and also why the wheels were touching the edges of the boot. Oh, and the wheels were actually fraying, but that was the least of my safety issues.
Bottom line, for $50 no it's not worth the struggling and risk of injury that they brought. I ended up buying some Riedell R-3's at the suggestion of some veteran skaters and I couldn't be happier. They cost a bit more but are so worth it when it means I'm not constantly falling and cursing my feet!
They get the 1 star because the boots were comfortable and because I don't think you can give no stars. Maybe these would be OK skates for children, but other than that I wouldn't waste my money.
