Rollerblade Pro XT Inline Skates Review

Rollerblade Pro XT Inline Skates

My first impression was of amazement and excitement when I received my skates. Unfortunately, my happiness started to fade away when I first used them. The first flaw in the design are the wheels. I was skating in a basemanet (smooth floor) and my wheels started to crack everywhere. On the third day of skating, one of wheels was completeley destroyed, even though I never took the skates through a rough surface.

Even though, I had a bad experience with the wheels, I quickly changed them for some Hyper Wheels. Things ran smoother after that, until yesterday (two weeks later!!!) when the joint on my boot fell off. So now, one of my skates is not supporting my leg or ankle, making me wobble from side to side.

I don't know if it's just my luck, or this product is faulty, since a friend of mine (a girl) has bought the same skates (but obviously te women's line), and she has no complains until now.

As for me, I'm buying a new pair of skates, since these hace caused me a lot of trouble. If you need more proof, here's a link with some photos of my wheel and the skate that broke:

Hope this review helps you in your decision...

Rollerblade Astro 8 Inline Skates Review

These are the last skates Rollerblade made with the Advanced Braking Technology (ABT), which was an excellent aid to help beginners to learn braking and a totally acceptable braking method for experienced skaters also.Sad, and it will be missed. Suspect it was a victim of cost cutting during these the poor economic times.
The down side of the Astro 8.0 is that the wheel frame is not square to the boot frame and they need to be shimmed square to be useable.Later Rollerblades have a one piece wheel/boot frame which would eliminate allignment quality control problems in the third world countries where they are made and assembled.

I am still a beginner, and I find these to be excellent inline skates. My opinion might not matter much, but I think these strike a fine balance between being cheap enough for the novice to buy without fear of losing money and good enough for the skilled to use without noticing any lack in features.
Comfortable fit also, assuming you use the "half a size larger" rule. My shoe size is around 12, so I got 12.5 (I think this applies to the Rollerblade brand only; other brands might require different adjustments for size).
I don't have a single complaint with these, and I would recommend them even more for the beginner, since I've found these to be an excellent first pair of inline skates.

Very nice set of inline skates. Just like any other new set of skates it is takes a short time for the bearings and wheels to get broken in. Build and quality are very good. The aluminum frame is very nice compared to the plastic frames, the 80mm wheels are pretty quick even though they are not broken in. The skates were accurately described and were delivered in a timely manner.

Okay, so I just got these skates yesterday evening, and yeah, I'm used to $30 skates, but geez these are comfortable! I took them for a spin last night. They roll very smoothly, and they feel very light on my feet, even though I don't think they're actually any lighter than my old ones. They're really supportive of my ankles, and all around just really nice skates. I tried on the K2 Athena 6.1 skates also, and actually liked these better. The other (more expensive) ones squashed my feet. Maybe I would've just needed a bigger size in those, but I wonder why? I really like these skates so far. I'll update when I've had more experience on them.

About K2
In February of 1961 the first pair of fiberglass skis was produced by brothers Bill and Don Kirschner in their Vashon Island, Washington shop. The Kirscners, avid skiers, built fiberglass animal cages for medical use and were convinced that their process could build a ski that was lighter, stronger, and more lively than the wood and metal skis of the day. They really just wanted to build some cool skis for themselves and their friends. And the rest, as they say, is history. Much has changed since those early days on sleepy Vashon Island, but one thing has not: K2 is still a bunch of adrenaline junkies who just want to make some cool stuff for themselves and their friends.
Today, K2 Inc. is a premier, branded consumer products company with a portfolio of leading brands including Shakespeare and Stearns for marine and outdoor products, Rawlings and Worth for team sports, K2 and Brass Eagle for action sports, and Marmot and Ex Officio for apparel and footwear. K2's diverse products includes fishing, watersports activities, baseball, softball, alpine skiing, snowboarding, and inline skating.

I gave these rollerblades as a gift and my nephew couldnt even stand up because the rollerblades had no grip and he just slid around and they were not safe. I contacted the seller and they contacted me back promptly but their return policy SUCKS! All I could get was a credit and they were going to charge me a %10 restocking fee if they didnt get the rollerblades back within 10 days of contacting me. Crappy product... even crappier return policy. Save your time and money... if you want cheap rollerblades that are at least safe, go to Wal mart or Targert.

They look like 5 star out of the box. The shoes have a great mix of materials. Carbon for stiffness, mesh for breathability and leather to look precius.
Nevertheless, after about 300 miles the mesh has holes, the carbon shaft has cut into the fabric below and the coated leather is flaking at stressed parts of the shoe tongues.
The quality of this shoes is just embarrassing for a brand like K2.

I owned the original Lightning TRS's in college twentysome odd years ago.... I have had those, the 3 buckle men's Fusion, the spiritblade or purple thingy skates that are womens which I forgot the name of. I purchased the Twisters 243 because they are the style of the original Lightnings and more. They are MY ultimate skate. THANK YOU Rollerblade! They fit like bedroom slippers and move like a dream. I move out with them. Fabulous! I don't say this often but 10 stars... forget 5 stars. Nice when some companies get back to basics.... I love this skate. Thank you !

The build quality is excellent (I compared in store to roller blade brand counterparts-- price for price these have far better quality).

The fit is excellent.

The styling is excellent.

The boot is comfortable, even after 100s of uses.(In the store I found it to be far more comfortable than roller blade brand and this really sold me).

They're midrange skates with a beginner feel to them. They can be easily upgraded to pure midrange skates.

The thing that makes them beginner friendly is that the wheels are soft.Wheels have a hardness rating, so in general softer wheels give you more grip and the skates feel less slippery, and your speed is actually restrained by this. For beginners, this is quite helpful. One downside is that soft wheels will appear to wear out quickly, but that stops after a few rotations and they begin to harden up a little bit. They actually lasted about 5 months for me under intense conditions.

In January, I started learning skating by doing small circles on the patio of my backyard.I taught myself, and some 9 months and a few upgrades later I'm hopping off curbs, skating backwards, and taking my dog (or he's taking me) on wild runs down steep hills.I've lost 60 lbs in 7 months doing this (I have been at an correct body weight for my size for more than 2 months now).

That doesn't mean these skates will do the work for you, of course. But I've found that I love skating, and so the weight just sort of fell off. While I'm not on a strict diet, I do watch what I eat and avoid foods that are obviously high calorie (sorry, there's no way around that -- it's a fact of life). I am still quite satisfied with what I eat and don't feel like I'm missing anything.I'm 32 years old, and I've got essentially, a 6 pack of abs for my efforts.I'm getting off topic, but I guess my point is that exercise *can* be fun.

I skate about 30 minutes to an hour a day, about 5 days a week. And these skates handle it.I've since replaced the factory wheels (due to simply wearing them down to nothing) and bearings with faster bearings (ABEC-7) and slightly larger and harder wheels for asphalt (80mm, 82a hardness). The result made them into performance skates on a budget. I am VERY hard on these skates, but the actual skates have held up well for 9 months.I may end up replacing them just because I have scuffed them up with my usage. But they are very durable, nonetheless and have no functional problems.

Feel free to shop around.Note that you can get substantial savings for getting last year's model. You can find the 2008 model for $70 at some places online. The differences, as far as I can tell, between 2007-2009 models of this skate are the colors and graphics.Everything else looks to be the same (down to the stitching). As time goes on it will be harder to find the older models in stock, for obvious reasons. But you might save about 35% by doing that. It's an incredible value. The ones I used (and still use) were the 2008 model of the K2 Exo, which had a silver on black look.

I look forward to trying more advanced models of K2 skates.

I haven't been on blades in years and recently have been feeling that old itch again. First off these blades are not for beginners out of the box they do not come with the brake outmatched, which for me is a huge plus because Ive always taken the back brake off. The barrings are nice and smooth and seem to roll forever. They have a really nice weight to them, not too heavy at all. The sizing is a little big, comparing to my shoe size, I ordered the size 11 and I usually fit in about a 9.5-10.5 shoe. The colors are nice not tacky. Being a former soldier I the DIGI-CAM kind of swayed me a little. As far as K2 is concerned these skates are classified in their "Commission" line. Which is second to the aggressive skate. In other words this is a pretty high end piece of equipment again not for beginners. So to wrap this up I would recommend these to just about any one that's more than comfortable on 8 wheels, you wont be sorry.

The RB-10s are nice but not nicer than my old lightning TRS that I got back some 15 years ago for less money. The wheels are nice and big and the bearings will keep you moving. The boot isn't the most comfortable for being Rollerblade's top of the line memory foam. I wanted to try the boots on before buying them but couldn't find any local shops that sell the higher end boot. For the quality, I would recommend just going to Big 5 or the like and getting a hundred dollar pair.
