The Wave Board Wheels / Street Surfing Wheels Review

After 3 months of riding his Wave Jr., my son had completely worn down the front wheel. I had ordered these a little while ago, when there was a nice price drop.

They work great! But the reason for the 4 stars.....it was quite difficult to get the bearings in the wheels. It took me about 20 min to half an hour to replace them, which should have only taken minutes. Had to use a hammer to get the bearings in...and I was sweating the fact that I might break them doing it that way.But there was no way my fingers were going to push those in.Don't know why they don't already come packaged ready to put on.You're obviously going to use the new bearings...why aren't they already in place?

The Wave Original Street Surfing Board Review

Until we get anti-gravity, this will have to do.

When I first saw this board, I didn't believe it could be rideable.Only two wheels instead of four, and they're on swivels. And the board is split in the middle, and pivots around a rod?I rounded up the owner, my 7-year old nephew Taigen."Show me." I demanded. When he did, it was like I was watching a magic trick.

So I studied it awhile, and took one ride while supported by a helpful shoulder. Then I kicked off by myself. As soon as you pivot once, and feel the board actually propelling you, you "get it."I was hooked.

Never have I seen a recreational toy where the disparity between perceived and actual difficulty was so great. If you kick off hoping for the reassuring support of four wheels, you're not going to make it.If, however, you kick off, and believe you're surfing/snowboarding/whatever, you will do fine. It's faith-based boarding! It's all about active balance.

I showed it to a friend. When he saw the swiveling casters, he said, "That's death-on-wheels!"I give him the prep-talk ("balance")Three kicks later, he's going around the parking lot.

The smoother the movements (swivel those hips!) the better. It's like riding a wave a couple of inches off the concrete.

Product Description:
Everyone's talking about the Wave street surfer inline action board, which blends the sensations of surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding in a single fun design. The Wave--which runs on two wheels rather than four--gives you the ability to perform precision 360s in small spaces, carve downhill, and even ride uphill, making it a blast for riders of all ages. And, of course, riders can perform all manner of skating tricks, including manuals, board leaps, ollies, acid drops, kick flips, and more. The Wave is distinguished by a spring-oriented torsion bar that controls the flexible front and rear panels, along with a pair of fully rotating 360-degree wheels with ABEC-5 bearings. Once on the board, the rider merely twists his or her hips back and forth in an S-shaped motion to propel down the street, with no foot propulsion required. Even better, it takes only a few minutes to learn how to ride the Wave. Within a few hours, most riders will become proficient.
Riders needn't worry about the Wave's durability, as the platforms are made of a virtually indestructible ABS plastic, while the steel torsion bar never wears down. In addition, the 77mm wheels were selected based on a tenuous balance of durability and traction. The Wave measures 35 by 9 by 5 inches (W x H x D), weighs 10 pounds, and carries a one-year warranty.

Skorpion Multi-Terrain with 115mm wheels - Small (4-7.5) Review

Skorpion Multi-Terrain with 115mm wheels - Small

Comfortable skates that take some getting used to because they are wide and the wheels are enormous, but all the better to ride on less than perfect surfaces. One suggestion.... upgrade the bearings. The originals are inexpensive to keep the cost of the skates down, and you will do yourself a big favor by getting high quality bearings to decrease the rolling resistance of the wheels. They should turn effortlessly for a bit after you spin a wheel with your hand.

Freeline Skates Review

I bought these after being disappointed with the small amount of speed I got from my ripstik. After watching the instructional video on Youtube, and seeing a great deal of fun tricks being done, I wanted to get Freelines.

The first day I bought them, I couldn't help but follow the instructional video's advice of holding onto a sturdy hand-rail and moving myself back and forth with my arms.Seriously, I couldn't leave that rail until after four or five hours of practice (my time on the rail was split across a few days).

I had two main challenges as a beginner, the first was learning to forcefully twist my feet to steer, and the second was using this twisting to steer both feet independently. This takes practice.

When I first started moving along a sidewalk, a large problem shows itself: the presence of cracks, twigs, and rocks. It doesn't take much to stop you if you're putting along at beginner speeds, and that means you're suddenly off of your skates.Don't worry too much, because if you slip and fall, you just let gravity take your foot straight down and it's on the ground, safe and sturdy.

After a couple weeks, I became comfortable enough to use it as a method of transportation. My speed feels like a slow run.Maybe 5 to 8 mph.Speeds are hard to hold on rough asphalt, but I'm sure I've gotten past 10 mph.

These skates were built for going down hills, where skaters report going well over 30 mph.All of my riding has been on flat surfaces; I just haven't had time to go out to a hill.

I'm not sure if it's entirely caused by these skates, but I believe I should mention that my knees feel a little worse for wear.

Using these skates takes leg muscle, control, and practice, but for now they seem worth the effort.

Ripstik Caster Board Review

I am 44 years old.I bike, I ski, I in-line skate. When I first saw a college student riding one of these, I asked him about it.He said "try it!"I almost did, but I didn't, for fear I would fall and die.I mean, only two wheels? And I didn't have my helmet with me.
I finally broke down and bought one after seeing some cool videos on the internet. After putting on my helmet, and my knee and elbow pads and my wrist guards, I took it out into the parking lot today.
The first ride is very scary, like riding a buttered block of ice, and lasts only about 1 second. After about five rides I'm up to five seconds and smiling my butt off.
For the next half hour I can't stop smiling, even when I fall off (once). After this time, I'm able to make left turns, and I can even go uphill by doing a sort of manic twist to gain momentum. My longest ride is about 30 seconds.
If you consider yourself coordinated, well-balanced, and reasonably athletic, I recommend this product to you, regardless of your age.It works perfectly, and presents a new athletic challenge that is well worth mastering. The independent steering of the front and back wheels adds a whole new dimension to the fun.The challenge of staying on the board will get you sweating without even realizing you are exercising.
The Ripstik Caster Board is a revolutionary product, just as significant, I think, as the in-line skate.Buy one before you get too old for it.
