NO WRIST GUARDS=TROUBLE
I picked up snowboarding last winter, and the first couple of times I foolishly went to the mountain without any wrist protection. BAD IDEA. I came home with sore and tender wrists each time, and looking back on the experience, I consider myself extremely lucky to have gotten off so easy. If not these wrist guards, you should DEFINITELY wear something when you are learning (don't wait until later), because that is when you fall the worst. I cannot tell you how many times I fell backwards onto my wrists, even though I knew in my head that it was the worst thing I could do.

WRIST GUARDS OUTSIDE THE GLOVE
I figured out that I needed to wear something, and the next couple of times I used wrist protectors that fit over the glove. They drastically cut down on the trauma I was inflicting on my wrists, and convinced me about the value of protection, butthey were bulky. I was keenly aware that I was wearing them.

WRIST GUARDS INSIDE THE GLOVE
Then, I found out about these wrist guards for under the glove. They fit easily into my gloves and I completely forgot that I had them on--until I fell. I took some pretty nasty falls, and thanks to these, my wrists were just fine.

COMPLETE PROTECTION?
Nothing will protect you 100%. You still need to avoid falling on your wrists as much as possible. However, when it does happen (unexpectedly catching an edge and landing hard on your outstretched hands), at least you significantly increase the odds of getting up without injury.

Pro-Tec X-Large Street Knee Pads Review

(More customer reviews)I bought these for mountain biking and one of them always gives me a blister on the side of my knee.The sticking seem is on the inside which may look better but it doesn't help with comfort.

Having said that, the price was right and the do protect your knees well.

And, you can cover these up with a skirt or shorts, if you are using it for derby.I don't come home with as many bruises and am grateful for the solid protection.

I've fallen once since receiving them (very quick shipping from Amazon) and they protected my wrists and palms perfectly. I'd recommend these to anyone that needs a quality set of wrist guards. Just last night, we had a practice where it was all about knee falls, four-point falls, rock star slides, etc. and these make it easy to fall and recover very quickly. They provide a good layer of padding without being so thick that it begins to affect crossover skating.

I'm very disappointed to not be able to safely use my great new rollerblades.

TSG All Terrain Knee Pad Review

(More customer reviews)Can't speak for skateboarding, but in derby, these would work well for smaller skaters who struggle to fit into other pads or for those who want good protection without a lot of bulk. Most non-custom pads slip around on my legs because they are too long; these stay in place, I haven't fallen on them yet, or not unintentionally, but I can do knee taps on quad skates without feeling a thing. That's more than I could say about my Pro-Tecs.

Haven't crashed yet to test out the protection, but they don't seem too promising in that department...

Pro-Tec Park Skate Knee Pads Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased the Army Green knee pads for protection when playing airsoft on the rocky Texas terrain. For its function as aprotection from sharp blows, these pads are excellent. Other criteria for good knee pads are a secure fit, and comfort. These have been the most secure pads I've owned, and I've used at least four different models from my days playing paintball.

My initial discomfort with this pads however is the reason for the 4-star rating. Let me first say that my experience can be subjective, as these pads are designed for skate park use. As you can see from the photos, these pads have a natural bend to them, supporting a bent-knee stance common among bladers or bike riders. For airsoft and paintball, the wearer is likely standing up or running with legs extended. This causes the bottom edge of the pad to dig into the shin or bottom knee cap. I have several friends who have owned these pads for a while, and they say the discomfort will go away after the padding has broken in. I sure hope so, because then I would rate the Park pads a solid five.
