Having said that, the price was right and the do protect your knees well.

(More customer reviews)I got these pads to help me in roller derby.I had a few spills on my tailbone without the padding, and now I'll never go back.I researched many options out there -- trust me, there are cuter ones, but I'd rather have sturdy, reliable padding than just some extra cushion that other pads offered. And, you can cover these up with a skirt or shorts, if you are using it for derby.I don't come home with as many bruises and am grateful for the solid protection.

Just last night, we had a practice where it was all about knee falls, four-point falls, rock star slides, etc. and these make it easy to fall and recover very quickly. They provide a good layer of padding without being so thick that it begins to affect crossover skating.

TSG All Terrain Knee Pad Review

(More customer reviews)Can't speak for skateboarding, but in derby, these would work well for smaller skaters who struggle to fit into other pads or for those who want good protection without a lot of bulk. Most non-custom pads slip around on my legs because they are too long; these stay in place, I haven't fallen on them yet, or not unintentionally, but I can do knee taps on quad skates without feeling a thing. That's more than I could say about my Pro-Tecs.

Pro-Tec Park Skate Knee Pads Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased the Army Green knee pads for protection when playing airsoft on the rocky Texas terrain. For its function as aprotection from sharp blows, these pads are excellent. Other criteria for good knee pads are a secure fit, and comfort. These have been the most secure pads I've owned, and I've used at least four different models from my days playing paintball.

My initial discomfort with this pads however is the reason for the 4-star rating. Let me first say that my experience can be subjective, as these pads are designed for skate park use. As you can see from the photos, these pads have a natural bend to them, supporting a bent-knee stance common among bladers or bike riders. For airsoft and paintball, the wearer is likely standing up or running with legs extended. This causes the bottom edge of the pad to dig into the shin or bottom knee cap. I have several friends who have owned these pads for a while, and they say the discomfort will go away after the padding has broken in. I sure hope so, because then I would rate the Park pads a solid five.
