Huffy So Sweet Girls' 20-Inch Bike Review

This bike is basically OK, but I pity anyone who might try to assemble it without the proper tools.

All nuts and bolts are metric. The tires were deflated.Worst I found was that the width of the front forks and the the width of the axle mounting points did not match.I had to spread the forks apart with brute force to get them to go around the inner nuts on the axle. The forks brackets were half a bolt too narrow.I could either leave the nuts on and spread the forks or remove the nuts and really have to tighten the forks together about 1/4".Print and diagrams on the instruction sheet were so small, they were basically useless.Had to use a magnifying glass.

I had all of the tools and a compressor, so aside from the front forks, assembly was not a problem.

Grandaughter is enjoying the bike.Only problem so far has been handlebars that are slightly loose.I have tightened them down.Hopefully, that will be enough.

Mongoose Missygoose Girls' Bike (16-Inch Wheels) Review

After chunking some cheap bikes we owned, I was looking for something more durable for my granddaughter. This bike fills the bill. It's easy for a four year old to ride and holds a thirteen year old fine.A little bit heavy and slower than other bikes so it's not perfect but still good for the price.

After just weeks of use the tires started blowing out and gererally don't hold air. The inner tube would just pop like I put too much air but I use a guage. Checked the rim for burrs but none. Finnally got an airless tube. I think they just don't make them like they used to.

Mongoose Pizazz Girls' Bike (16-Inch Wheels) Review

Mongoose Pizazz Girls' Bike
Average Reviews:

First, I'd like to urge fellow reviewers to rate products based on the product, not on the seller, price, or shipping. Each of those problems can be addressed within the review or to the specific party involved, but it tells nothing about the product and giving arating considering these factors doesn't give an accurate account of the ITEM, which is what the rating is supposed to address. That being said, i bought this bike for my 4 year old. It doesn't come with a kickstand, which isn't a big deal at the present because she needs the training wheels. Kickstands are easy to find, but I would prefer having one in the box. The bike is beautiful and durable. It was fairly easy to assemble and like all children's bikes, it is a bit hefty with a shipping weight of 30 pounds. A bike for a 3-6 year favors sturdiness over speed. My daughter loves it. I will agree with other reviewers about the hand brake (caliper) being stiff and difficult for a child to operate. Overall, I would recommend this bike to the value conscious parent and especially those tired of pink. The details are perfectly girly without being frilly and make this bike stand out and up long after "bratz," "barbie," "my little pony," and "princess" bikes lose their appeal.

About Shipping: I bought this bike from Amazon and, admittedly, I made them send a replacement because the first bike was scratched and dirty. the box looked as if it had been thrown from plane, train, and truck. I gave Amazon a bit of a tongue lashing concerning the condition in which a child's product, excuse me, any product, should be shipped in to maintain a buyer's loyalty. In the end, problem solved. My review is not colored by price or shipping issues because neither is directly attributable to the product itself.

About Mongoose
In 1974, BMX Products, Inc., later to be known as Mongoose Bicycles, launched from a humble garage. The first of its kind, the BMX bicycle was named after bicycle motocross and was designed to fit the needs of the rough-and-tumble dirt-racing pastime that took its toll on wheels and bicycles. The heavy-duty, one-piece cast-aluminum Mongoose Motomag wheel was soon born, and it was the first competition-ready BMX bicycle available. Skip Hess, while in Australia pursuing his motor sports passion, came into contact with a strange and unusual cat-size animal--the mongoose. Known for its passive nature while unprovoked, yet vicious and aggressive enough to kill a threatening Cobra twice its size, the Mongoose impressed Hess, who quickly registered the Mongoose trademark for his new bicycle racing frame.
The Expert BMX bicycle model, which is still a cornerstone of the Mongoose BMX line today, was introduced in 1980. Shortly after, Mongoose captured the first ever ABA National #1 Cruiser Title. Previously known for the 20-inch bicycle, this title signaled the re-direction of Mongoose bicycles to larger-wheeled, adult-sized models. Several years later, Mongoose continues to dominate the cruiser racing circuit with six National No. 1 Cruiser titles, leading to the introduction of adult-sized Mongoose all-terrain bicycles (ATBs).
In 1992, Mongoose pioneered the full-suspension market with the introduction of the Amplifier. This design is still the most-copied suspension design in the market. Several year later, Mongoose launched the Newman adult bicycle frame, which is proven to be 15% stronger than any other bike frame in the market. The design, while functionally sound, also raised eyebrows because of its distinctive look.
In the next few years, Mongoose increased its marketing focus to dominate the bicycle industry, and more important, extend beyond it. The Mongoose brand marketing initiative makes more than 100 million impressions. Mongoose's brand awareness increased by over 130% in 1999 and solidifies the No. 2 market share position in units and dollars. Mongoose was acquired by Pacific Cycle, LLC, and continues to grow and prosper with more than 40 models of BMX, mountain, trail, freestyle, jumping, comfort, road, and cyclocross bikes.

Kawasaki KX16 Girls' Bike (16-Inch Wheels) Review

Just like the 12-inch version we bought for our daughter a year or two ago, this Kawasaki girl's 16-inch bike is well worth the money. We are completely satisfied with our purchase. Unlike the big-box store selection (often in over-the-top girly/frilly colors and designs), this bike is quite sturdy, not too cutesy, and includes additional features that other bikes do not. Some of the best selling points include a chainguard that completely covers the chain. It includes a handbrake in addition to the coaster brake. The seat is comfortably padded. And, it comes with a backpack (which can be attached to the front) and a matching water bottle. We only wish that it had a front tire mud-guard. Amazon's price and shipping-time couldn't be beat.

Schwinn Jasmine Girls' Bike (16-Inch Wheels) Review

Schwinn Jasmine Girls' Bike
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I chose this bike because it's made by a real bike company, Schwinn. There are lots of "pink and girly" bikes out there (in toy stores, etc.) that are made by no-name companies, or bikes branded with licensed characters (Disney, Barbie, etc.)But if you look at them closely you'll see the quality is just subpar.I am an avid biker and I build/repair my own bikes so I can tell the difference. This bike has coaster brakes and dual hand brakes (for both the front and back wheels) while most other kids bikes have only coaster brakes or maybe just a front hand brake. The hand brake levers are made of sturdy metal while most other kids bikes have plastic hand brake levers. The training wheels are mounted on strong heavy-duty steel supports and there is a special locking bracket to make sure the training wheels don't slip/twist out of position. Most other kids bikes have very cheaply made training wheels (thin weak stamped steel) and no locking safety bracket. Also, the frame design with the curved top tube lowers the stand-over height of the bike. This is great for young children learning to ride because they can comfortably straddle the bike with both their feet firmly on the ground. The bike feels a bit heavy but you know that it will last.I had another 16" Schwinn boys bike for my son a few years ago that really stood up to abuse. He has outgrown it, but it's still in great shape so we handed it down to a cousin to enjoy.

The Schwinn Jasmine 16-inch girls' bike is a perfect example, with a number of high-quality features for the beginning rider. As a result, your daughter can ride with confidence until she's ready to take her next steps with a bigger bike. Plus, the bike is as fashionable as it is functional, with a fun light blue color, a matching handlebar bag, and streamers on the end of the grips. Other features include a full top-wrap chain guard that keeps pants and laces free of tangles, a cushioned saddle, safety pads, a BMX-style handlebar with a two-bolt stem and alloy cap, a one-piece BMX crankset, and both a coaster brake and front and rear caliper brakes.

I purchased this bike for my 6yr old because she loves Bratz dolls. I hit the jackpot. She loves it and I like the color and sturdiness. Plus, my daughter enjoys riding it. Prior to ordering from Amazon, I tried to order this bike from Walmart Site-to-Store and my purchase never arrived, the reps were rude and the service was poor. As soon as I cancelled my Walmart order, I found the bike on Amazon for a few bucks more and it was definitely worth it. The bicycle arrived faster than I expected. The assembly was NOT easy at all, but my daughter was riding her bike that same day. Kudos Amazon!

Mongoose Lark Girls' Bike (18-Inch Wheels) Review

Mongoose Lark Girls' Bike
Average Reviews:

I would not recommend buying any Mongoose product, sight unseen, period. This is one of two different Mongoose bikes, purchased as a Christmas gifts, with both having the same issues. The bike arrived in the factory box, as Amazon indicates.Apparently, Mongoose has a rather amateurish concept of how to box anything so the contents don't shift around in transit, in this case, resulting in several scratches and paint chips in the brand new bike. Also, one of the ribbed grips was crushed/deformed due to the way it was strapped to the frame for shipping, and it is not rebounding back to the original shape.Nice Christmas gift for a grandchild, right?I contacted Mongoose "customer service" via their website e-mail link and fully explained the situation, requesting touch-up paint and a grip to just take care of the damage myself and avoid gift hassles.Their response?"Contact Amazon if there is shipping damage."I responded back that there was no "shipping damage" but internal damage due to their poor packaging of the bike components.Their response?Silence.

Stay away from Mongoose products unless you want to receive damaged merchandise, fresh out of undamaged factory packaging, due to their brain dead manner of internally "securing" the merchandise for shipping.Of course, it's always wonderful to get customer service from people who have no clue what that means.

BTW, I noted on their website an FAQ which included a Q/A addressing a question about obtaining touch-up paint for their bikes. The answer was "no, we don't supply touch up paint."They further advised going to a hobby store and trying to match the bike paint to plastic model paint.Nice response and product support.
