RipStik DLX Caster Board Review

RipStik DLX Caster Board

I've had the chance to try the "DLX" version as well as the Regular Ripstik version and there is a big difference in the way that they ride. The main difference is the tightness of the torsion bar on the DLX.It has a tighter spring so you're less likely to scrape the bottom of the Ripstik on turns. The tighter spring also puts less strain on your ankles because it springs back on its own a lot easier in stead of relying on ankle-strength.This makes the board a breeze to use.

Both are still about the same weight, the DLX version being SLIGHTLY lighter and thinner -- although you'll be hard-pressed to tell the difference.

The all-black version looks a lot slicker, less like a toy and more like a wicked, futuristic skateboard.

On Amazon there is a "Deluxe" DLX version, however, in my research I have found no difference between this version and the Regular DLX version, or the "Toys 'R' Us" DLX Version -- they're all the same.

The Ripster: The Ripstik Ripster versions are a different riding experience altogether because they take a different set of muscles to operate.Where the larger Ripstik version uses more hips, the smaller version uses more of your ankles and knees. The tighter turning radius of the smaller Ripstermakes it more maneuverable in tight spaces (like around the house or garage, basement, etc.) but the larger version is better for cruising on the roads and sidewalks, and the cost of maneuverability.I'm not sure the difference between the Ripstik Ripster and the RR DLX, but there's a $30 difference, so it's probably lighter and tighter like the regular DLX.

Back to the DLX: The only con I can think of is that Razor made a huge improvement with the torsion bar in this version, and it's a shame that they charge you more for such a cheap-costing change that should be in the Regular version as well.Apparently they shaved off a little weight by using aluminum instead of steel but the difference is minimal. The other problem with this product is that it is really hard to find information about the differences in riding experiences without riding them (so far I'm the only one I know with such a review).

If you're looking to get a Ripstik (and I highly recommend you do -- they're really fun to ride), I would say save up an extra $30 and get the easier-to-control DLX version. You'll ride this thing for hours at a time, and the last thing you want is for your ankles to be really sore.

Good luck, and be careful around cars!

After 3 months of riding his Wave Jr., my son had completely worn down the front wheel. I had ordered these a little while ago, when there was a nice price drop.

They work great! But the reason for the 4 stars.....it was quite difficult to get the bearings in the wheels. It took me about 20 min to half an hour to replace them, which should have only taken minutes. Had to use a hammer to get the bearings in...and I was sweating the fact that I might break them doing it that way.But there was no way my fingers were going to push those in.Don't know why they don't already come packaged ready to put on.You're obviously going to use the new bearings...why aren't they already in place?

While trying to decide between the original Ripstick and the Wave for my 12 yr. old son, I found the "newer" Ripster. I read reviews of how these were lighter weight and you could do tricks more easily. Of course, that caught my attention and I'm glad I purchased this one. This has been one of his favorite and most used Christmas gifts. He was able to take off after the first few tries and was really good after a day or two. His older brother, 17, also picked it up quickly and uses it frequently. I recently heard a friend comment on how much lighter this was than the original Ripstick. I am thoroughly pleased with my purchase (although I see they are now cheaper than when I bought) and would highly recommend this.

My kids, ages 6, 8, & 14 love this scooter. When they are at school, I ride it--I'm 39.Doesn't go as well uphill, or even a small incline, without manual pushes on the ground with your foot, but otherwise you can get it to roll around with both feet up, simply by swaying your body from side to side.It is an excellent design.I absolutely love it and so do my kids. Gets them out from behind the video games for a while.

The Wave Original Street Surfing Board Review

The Wave Original Street Surfing Board
Average Reviews:

Until we get anti-gravity, this will have to do.

When I first saw this board, I didn't believe it could be rideable.Only two wheels instead of four, and they're on swivels. And the board is split in the middle, and pivots around a rod?I rounded up the owner, my 7-year old nephew Taigen."Show me." I demanded. When he did, it was like I was watching a magic trick.

So I studied it awhile, and took one ride while supported by a helpful shoulder. Then I kicked off by myself. As soon as you pivot once, and feel the board actually propelling you, you "get it."I was hooked.

Never have I seen a recreational toy where the disparity between perceived and actual difficulty was so great. If you kick off hoping for the reassuring support of four wheels, you're not going to make it.If, however, you kick off, and believe you're surfing/snowboarding/whatever, you will do fine. It's faith-based boarding! It's all about active balance.

I showed it to a friend. When he saw the swiveling casters, he said, "That's death-on-wheels!"I give him the prep-talk ("balance")Three kicks later, he's going around the parking lot.

The smoother the movements (swivel those hips!) the better. It's like riding a wave a couple of inches off the concrete.

Product Description:
Everyone's talking about the Wave street surfer inline action board, which blends the sensations of surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding in a single fun design. The Wave--which runs on two wheels rather than four--gives you the ability to perform precision 360s in small spaces, carve downhill, and even ride uphill, making it a blast for riders of all ages. And, of course, riders can perform all manner of skating tricks, including manuals, board leaps, ollies, acid drops, kick flips, and more. The Wave is distinguished by a spring-oriented torsion bar that controls the flexible front and rear panels, along with a pair of fully rotating 360-degree wheels with ABEC-5 bearings. Once on the board, the rider merely twists his or her hips back and forth in an S-shaped motion to propel down the street, with no foot propulsion required. Even better, it takes only a few minutes to learn how to ride the Wave. Within a few hours, most riders will become proficient.
Riders needn't worry about the Wave's durability, as the platforms are made of a virtually indestructible ABS plastic, while the steel torsion bar never wears down. In addition, the 77mm wheels were selected based on a tenuous balance of durability and traction. The Wave measures 35 by 9 by 5 inches (W x H x D), weighs 10 pounds, and carries a one-year warranty.

Ripstik Caster Board Review

Ripstik Caster Board

I am 44 years old.I bike, I ski, I in-line skate. When I first saw a college student riding one of these, I asked him about it.He said "try it!"I almost did, but I didn't, for fear I would fall and die.I mean, only two wheels? And I didn't have my helmet with me.
I finally broke down and bought one after seeing some cool videos on the internet. After putting on my helmet, and my knee and elbow pads and my wrist guards, I took it out into the parking lot today.
The first ride is very scary, like riding a buttered block of ice, and lasts only about 1 second. After about five rides I'm up to five seconds and smiling my butt off.
For the next half hour I can't stop smiling, even when I fall off (once). After this time, I'm able to make left turns, and I can even go uphill by doing a sort of manic twist to gain momentum. My longest ride is about 30 seconds.
If you consider yourself coordinated, well-balanced, and reasonably athletic, I recommend this product to you, regardless of your age.It works perfectly, and presents a new athletic challenge that is well worth mastering. The independent steering of the front and back wheels adds a whole new dimension to the fun.The challenge of staying on the board will get you sweating without even realizing you are exercising.
The Ripstik Caster Board is a revolutionary product, just as significant, I think, as the in-line skate.Buy one before you get too old for it.
